Two members of the team do fieldwork in South Africa

Marta Iñiguez de Heredia and Ángeles Montalvo Chaves went to Pretoria and Cape Town to interview actors involved in the design and/or development of peacebuilding interventions, as well as SA’s position in regards to conflict management in the continent.

The objetives of the interviews to be undertaken in South Africa in this round were to: 

• Gather first-hand testimonies of South Africa’s and/or SADC’s peace and security strategy in the continent.  
• Explore through the eyes of experts in the matter, the strategy and vision on the interventions undertaken by the SADC in the DRC and Mozambique. 
• Explore with concerned officials the transformation of peacebuilding strategies by traditional actors like the UN and the EU.  

The team also visited the University of Pretoria where they gave a guest lecture each.
